Some idiocy went long before you. 200 1989

Choke. And no 89 240 in Middleburg VA should be lighting that light.

What it likely means is your new acquisition has had fingers in it which were not factory trained, and possibly some expediency was met in getting this car to change hands. It could very well be the check engine light signal being displayed on an instrument cluster for an earlier car. The 89 does indeed use a check engine light, and most inspection procedures preclude passing a car with one lighted. That does not explain your situation, though, because even this orange light will raise an inspector's red flag. In this case, your mileage certainly may have been varied.

Just to test this, go under the hood and find the 25A fuse near the battery. Remove it momentarily and reinstall it. See if the choke light remains or returns soon. Then, get to know your on board diagnostics (OBD) tool.

I hope that is the limit of tomfoolery your new car has suffered.
