Wailing Overdrive

What Model / Year? It helps to choose these two options above the message area when creating a brickboard.com thread.

I'd suggest you research information Laycock D-type over drive rebuild. There may be some shortcomings or wear items you may want to replace like springs, seals, and, heck, I dunno. Been a long time I'd futzed with D and J type overdrive units.

I think 1963 is a little early for the D-type? Not sure.

After assembly, use a synthetic lube in your manual transmission. Everyone raves about Redline hre on the owld brickboard. Please verify the correct transmission model and use the specified fluid. The Volvo owner manual contains this information. A Volvo owner manual when published, however, did not know of Redline or Amsoil for quality synthetic lubes. You may want to go with the the slightly heavier (more viscous) weight oil if the owner manual recommends a lubricant range by temperature.

If you have not already use synthetic lubes in your vintage gear box and differential, use of synthetic lube may alone quiet down the noise you don't care for.

Caveat: Synthetic lube may not go well with the materials used to make the various gearbox and differential seal of the time.

Hope that helps.
