I have a 1996 960 wagon that we just finished fixing a blown headgasket after a few months of it sitting in a warehouse waiting for money and time to fix it. Everything seems to be running great and I drove it home so I could get it inspected the next day. I got home and found I had no headlights, parklights or brakelights! Checked the fuses inside the car and found the headlight and breaklight fuses blown. Replacing them and turning the key to start immediately blew them again. I have a fog light that the glass is busted in, so I had hoped that was where the problem was. Unplugging the foglights, the fog light relay and the foglight fuse did not stop the problem. I have left them unplugged. I next unplugged the headlights. Fuses still blow. I unplugged the large connection of wires that power everything on the tailgate, rear lights. Fuse doesn't blow while car is running, blows when I turn the car off. I think that is the order I have tried everything so far. I might be a little confused as I was cussing like a sailor by the time I found the large connection for the rear of the car. If anyone has suggestions of what to check and in what order, I'd greatly appreciate it. I think at this point I need a checklist to print and check off what I've done.
