M40 won't go into 1st, 2nd in heavy traffic 444-544

Hello,

Check all clutch linkage pieces for wear including the bushings on the pedal where it rotates on the shaft that is under the car.

The other end of this shaft is also what the brake pedal rotates on.

AFAIK, we are the only ones to have a polyurethane bushings for the clutch crosshaft for B18 PVs.

We made our own mold of an original Volvo bushing and use an easily available polyurethane to make our own bushing.

We have used this technique to reproduce several non available Volvo bushings, most of them associated with shifting mechanisms both for manual and automatic transmissions.

The original bushings for B18 PV clutch crossshafts are available right from Volvo, but those bushings often break while being installed and once installed they are not lasting very long.

Unfortunately the Volvo version is what most old Volvo stores sell.

The only exception so far is CVI who have a nylon looking bushing.

I tried to order a bunch of those bushings from CVI along with a large order we made with them about a year ago, but they only sent us 2 of the bushings.

I did not follow up with CVI, but I figure they must have been low on them at the time.

The CVI bushings appear to be a quality bushing and was easy to install and is cheaper than ours but it is not polyurethane.
