A/C Auxilary Fan 200

93 245 Auto Transmission. The A/C fan in front of the condenser doesn't come on. I wired it to test and it works.I have had the car idling for a while in 94 degree temps. with A/C on and the temp. on the gauge is just above 9 a clock. So what controls the fan? Is it just controlled to come on with A/C? I see where the wires go to a switch that is fitted into a A/C line. If it's that switch that is bad can it be taken out with no problem or will I loose freon when removing it?
