Adapting 70+ style cable style clutch to a 1969 P1800S 1800

Greetings,

I have a 1969 Volvo P1800S that I'm turning into a race car. It's already been stripped, blasted, and caged - so a quick cost of paint on the underside and inside (engine bay, trunk, interior) and than the reassembly can begin, after which the final finsih can be applied.

Thanks to a shrewd purchase, I have _ALL_ the parts from a 1970 1800E that I plan to use on the car. I like the more powerful B20, the rear discs, and the CABLE STYLE clutch as opposed to the stock hydraulic setup.

And this is my issue - I'm not sure it is possible to get the 1970 clutch setup to work with the 1969 chassis. I have the '70 pedal cluster and when I hold it up to the firewall, I cannot see how it would mount. And there is no provision for the cable to pass through the firewall, but there's a larger round hole for the clutch master to pass through.

Has anyone done a swap like this before? Is it feasible, or will it require a bunch of cutting ans welding? I'm happy to do what is needed, but I have limited time, so if I can't do it in a reasonable period of time I will be forced to use the hydraulic setup, which seems to be more expensive, heavier, more complex, and therefore less suitable for racing use.

Thoughts pls...

Thanks! -Phil
