Yazaki/VDO interchangeable? 700 1989

Hi all, been away for a bit playing with Benz's and recently picked up a 740 wagon (1989) and surprise surprise the odometer doesn't work.

The gauge cluster in the car is currently a VDO unit (Non working Odo and bad reading fuel gauge) and im wondering of the unit can be swapped for a working Yazaki cluster and if not then what will and wont work?
