trans limp home mode 900 1996

Hello everyone, We have a 96 960 5 door with 100k on it. It is in great shape,; just finished rebuilding the front end all and also changing the transmission filter and adding mobil 1 trans fluid ( about five quarts) . Ran the car to Naples fl. last week end (tropical storm Debbie) in the pouring rain. This trip took about 3 hours no great puddles but the wind and rain was significant. When I got within five miles of home the car started to act sluggish. It had put itself in transmission limp home mode, and threw on the check engine light.I checked the code and got a 1618 from my code reader. the engine runs great. I can not push down the W button on the transmission mod selector. When I start it up after removing the battery cable fora while, it is real roughgoing in R ,smooth in everything else but is still starting out in 3rd or 4th, I know this aw 30 electrically controlled transmission.any suggestions as to where to go from here would be appreciated. Joest 92240 110k, 95 940 113k, thank you!
