"Desert Cooler' fan clutch 200

I recently installed the IPD "Desert Cooler" fan clutch in my '87. The car has an upgraded 92 air conditioning system with the electric condenser fan, which works very well. My question is for others who have added the heavy duty fan clutch. I notice that it engages at highway speed on very warm days. Not a big deal, but it is a little noisy. Is it normal for the fan to engage at highway speed? I would think the airflow through the radiator would be sufficient without the fan. The plus is that the electric condenser fan hardly ever turns on now, when it used to run quite often on hot days.
