Hi all! I've recently become the proud new owner of my grandma's 93 245 with only 155K. It had basically sat in a garage for about 6 years, and I don't have the maintenance records for the last 100k or so. I did the basic level 0 maintenance things but didn't want to stay home long enough to do the timing belt and front seals. I did notice a little oil under the timing cover when i inspected the timing belt, but i then cleaned the flame trap, replaced the element, and figureed that was that. Well, it wasn't. I've put about 5000 miles on this thing in the last two weeks, and the oil leak has now gotten bad enough that the accumulated oil on the crossmember by the exhaust system lit on fire coming into salt lake yesterday (I had lost about a half quart in 2000 miles, I think.) I took the top timing cover entirely off last night and discovered a LOT of oil in there, and it's unfortunately not coming from the valve cover or camshaft seal. There's enough that i'm having a little trouble telling where it IS coming from. There's oil soaking along the top of the water pump but i think it was carried there by the belt. There's a lot of wet oil around the intermediate and the tensioner, but it seems worst at the crank pulley. Of course, I can't really tell without pulling everything apart. Is there anything else that might be likely, aside from the crank seal being blown? I actually have my tools and the cranks seal and a new belt with me here, but it'll be one of those roadside jobs if i do it now so I'd like to be pretty sure it's the culprit. Thoughts?
Thanks very much!
