How do I remove console?

I am still in the procesS of replacing (or trying to replace) the heater valve in my 1992 240.

After wrenching my back spending way too many hours in contorted positions rying to get the flippin thing installed, I but refuse to give up.

First off, I need to remove the hose from the heater core fitting but it is literally fused onto the fitting. I assume I have to cut the hose to remove it but I hate to ruin a good hose - any other way that I am overlooking?

Also, I need to know how to remove the center console piece that surrounds the heater control et. I removed 2 screws at the bottom but I see no other castanets and don't want to force it.

When removed, will I be able to access the heater slide lever so I can change the cable?

I have to admit this has been more frustrating than any work I've done on a 240 including replacing the water pump and replacing axle bushings.

In hindsight, I shouldn't have taken it so lightly and researched it more.

Thanks in advance!
