A/C Compressor --- Help 200

Ok, well I removed the A/C compressor on my 87 240, and now I'm not sure what to do. It does not turn at all and was being bypassed in the belts. I have no experience trying to rebuild a compressor, but if it's not too tough I am willing to rebuild it. Also, I could go to a pull-a-part and take one off of another car, but I don't know if I could take it from a 740/940 or if I have to take it from a 240. Also, don't know if there's a way to tell if it works before I take it out.

Or there's always just buying a new or reconditioned one online, but I don't really want to spend $300.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if I do get a new compressor installed what do I need to do to change it from freeon to r134?
