142 leaky fuel tank 140-160 1972

My 1972 142 suddenly has difficulty controlling its bladder. Fuel is dripping from the fuel tank's drain plug when it's hot outside. I didn't notice any leaking fuel this morning when temps were in the 70s, so I assume the heat is building pressure inside the tank and forcing the fuel out of some sort of crack along the drain.

My first thought was to tighten the plug but I'm afraid that would break something and leave gallons of fuel on me and the driveway.

I was going to cover it with some POR-15 epoxy as a short-term fix. I suppose a long-term fix would be to remove the tank and have a welder fix the leak. I've never drained a fuel tank before; what do you do with the drained fuel? I assume reusing it in a car is a bad idea. I don't use gasoline lawn equipment, either.

Any other tips would be appreciated. Thanks.
