I did my research on here first but there are so many variations on electrical problems. I hope to find out where I should start first tomorrow.
I first noticed that my temperature gauge was low. Later I heard a loud buzzing sound from the speakers. Then the stereo died. I pulled over and put the hazard lights on. The tach started bouncing, keeping time with the hazard lights. I can't recall if the speedometer did the same. On it's own the lights on the stereo came back on, also keeping time with the hazard lights. During all of this it shut off and would not restart. There was no clicking, no groaning just silence. I shut the hazard lights off and the demons left the dashboard however it would not start. Under the hood I went. I checked the clean battery connections on my seven month old battery. I bumped the wire from the positive terminal to the 25 amp fuse (IPD waterproof fuse holder) and it broke. It must have been hanging by a thread. I checked the fuses inside and I had one that was hot to the touch. For the first time my 240 took ride on a rollback.
Once home it would not start. After connecting the broken wire, I jumped it. It started as usual. I let it run for awhile. All seemed ok. I disconnected the jumper cables and it was running still. I shut it off and a turn of the key brought silence. I swapped batteries and it started and restarted fine. I drove it and everything was fine till the tach started bouncing. The battery was checked and declared dead (100% replacement even if my car killed it).
That's my sad story. What is the most likely culprit? Did it kill the battery? Where do I started? For me I would take mechanical over electrical any day. Thank you very much in advance.
