Intermittent No-Start 200 1993

My 1993 240 is giving an intermittent no start. When it happens the starter does not run at all. There may perhaps be a slight click sound, but that's about it. This happens after the car has been driven and seems to happen more often when it is very hot out or the car has been parked in the sun.

The car will start after waiting for a bit. It also seems that introducing some vibration such as from closing the hood also helps.

I have not been able to conclusively diagnose this, because the car always ends up starting before I can do anything. The last time it happened I told my wife to open the hood and just close it again. The car started right up after that.

There have been some other recent posts where a similar situation was tied to the starter/solenoid.

I was thinking of just replacing the starter and neutral safety switch and calling it a day. Is there anything else I should be checking first?

Thanks,
Ted
