Tach sometimes slightly high 900

Once in a while, with no apparent related event, the tach in my 93 940T reads about 300 rpm high. I notice this on the highway/overdrive, have not noticed it in other gears. It's not high enough to reflect what revs would be if not in od, and I have shifted out of od to test that. It then goes right back to the high reading when od is engaged again. When this happens it's steady, no jumping, goes up and down with revs and speed, just is 'off' a bit.
Then it just stops and goes to a normal reading, which is 3k/73mph.
This has happened randomly for over 2 years, 2 coils, several power stages, plugs/wires/caps/rotors.
Any ideas?
