If I had access to a spare windshield that had only a scratch, I'd absolutely get it. If it were too scratched up to use, I'd take it to a glass shop and have them use it as a template.

Cut the seal, then cut it again, and cut it some more until you're absolutely certain it's not holding the glass anymore, and tilt the window out. Should be fine. Both windshields in our 445 were spiderwebbed and cracked everywhere, and they came out in single pieces.
