Steering Box Pitman Shaft Question 120-130

I have just purchased a '65 122S and have a question about the pitman arm / shaft. I have a gap of just under 1/2" (.45") between the bottom of the steering box and the pitman arm, is something wrong here? It doesn't look right to me. No excessive play nor leaks, all seems fine except for that gap. The arm is tight on the shaft w/ about 1/4" of threads beyond the nut. The splines on the shaft are visible & go right up to the bottom of the box, so I don't see the shaft being able to move up any further into the box. I am new to forums so not sure how to attach pic but will give it a shot.
