Some folks prefer points because you can repair them. I despise points because they constantly require repair. I will admit that my electronic ignition cannot be repaired, because it is never broken. It has no moving parts -- what would ever wear out or fail?
OK, I'm also lazy, and I like things that don't take much work. I've got a Crane ignition from the early 1990s. Must have 100k+ on it. Never a lick of trouble, perfect reliability and zero maintenance. I use my timing light every three years or so, just for fun. It's always still spot on. Nothing ever needs adjustment. I like that.
The power and economy gain is zero compared to new points in perfect adjustment. But points do not stay new, nor in perfect adjustment, for long. You will see a massive power and economy gain vs dying and/or burnt out points... no comparison with a car whose points just burned out, when you're trying to limp it to the nearest gas station so you can figure out what's wrong and sand the points flat and re-set them at night in the field in the rain in the middle of nowhere.
Reliability, lack of trouble, simplicity of maintenance. Those are the benefits.
