I have seen wonderful assistance on this forum and thank you all for the past help I have received.
I am looking for an expert with the charging circuit who can lead me to the right thing to check.
Here is what I know about the charging circuit: The circuit that is connected to the D+ post on the alternator goes to the instrument cluster, at the alt warning light. This circuit is critical because it tells the alternator to charge. It apprently reads the difference between the alt and the batterie and triggers charging based on this value.
On my Volvo, the car would stop charging after driving for 20-30 minutes. At that point, car voltage is batterie voltage and if I stop the engine and turn the ignition to the On position (not to the stsrt position), no warning lights would come on.
I would let the car rest for a few minutes and the circuit would then come back alive again!
I have repplaced the wire going from the D+ post to the firewall connector.
I have replaced this connector as well. The wire that goes to the cluster is still the same and I have not looked yet at the instruments cluster.
I have looked at the #13 fuse and it is just fine.
What else should i check?
Is there a specific ground location I should look at?
Can the alternator be the culprit?
