front wheel play top to bottom 200

My daughters 240 has front wheel play top to bottom. From what I read in the forumn and what seems logical is that the play is most likely in the ball joint. Does anyone know if this makes sense and if there is any other possibly
causes. The ball joints are only 5 years old and have around 15000 miles on them.
