Hi all, so I've got at 1992 240 and I've been without cruise control for some time now. I always assumed it was a vacuum issue as I lost function about the same time did the heater core. I figured I forgot to connect something but because I lived/worked in a city it wasn't high priority and I was just happy I could turn off the heat again.
Now that I'm commuting again (9 hours one way!) I got serious about troubleshooting and followed the FAQ guide here and in the Volvo green book. No luck. As far as I can tell I've got a good vacuum, the brake/clutch switches are in good, working order, and thanks to Weather here on BB I was able to test a known working CC module.
In the process of scouring Brickboard and other boards I came across the fried UAF 2115 chip issue. As Art Benstein put it, it's "usually the 2115 only gets whacked when someone inadvertently connects the red/white ignition timing wire to some terminal other than the tachometer input." which is what I'm nearly sure I did. I've looked at Art's page a bit, but electronics is my weak point and I'm still a bit shaky on things. So my questions are as follows:
Could I take it to a speedo shop and simply tell them to replace the UAF 2115 chip? Or is there a specific chip I should ask for specific to this job/car/task?
If that won't work, is it possible to change the entire board? And if so, can it be from a range of years, or does it specifically have to be from a 92?
Does anyone have a part number associated with it for a possible Tasca order should a PnP not work out?
And finally, are there any good, obvious diagrams online so I don't make the same mistake twice?
Thanks for all the help in advance!
Brian
