engine scraping noise at start up 200 1991

Hi Guys,

I have read all of the archived posts that matched my inquiry about a scraping noise at start up which stops as soon as I release the key (to KP II). The car starts fine but for two seconds sound horrible. The posts that matched my Brickboard search suggested the engine pulley. I changed the pulley-but there was no improvement. I appeal to your current knowledge. The car has a B230 non turbo engine and has had the timing sensor on top of the engine/tranny changed by me 10 years ago. I kind of suspect a sticking starter or something like that but after the pulley change I realize that I am to old now to investigate anything lower than the door handle. I would love the collective intelligence of the Board to comment on this so I do not have to walk in cold a mechanic. Thanks.
