I just bought a 1992 940. I have had several post 96 model volvos including my current 04 V70, but with 220k on the original clutch, I figure that cars days are numbered, so I decided to 'upgrade' to a B230 powered car that doesnt cost you $500 for a spare key, and need constant sensors at $200 or more a pop like the newer ones. I have many complete sets of wheels with near new tires from the 850's, and v70's I have owned, and it would make sense to me to use these sets on my 940. I have used adapters on an old Galaxie I have with great luck, but I am having a hard time finding a set that will work for the 940. I looked through the boards and all I found was a reference to the rear needing a 25mm spacer/adapter and the front needing 18mm. All I can find online for sale is 1" and 1.5" adapters(in 4.25"). I think 1" is almost exactly 25mm, so I can do that for the back, but no luck on something in 18mm, or 3/4" for th efront. Of course the guy who had suggested those sizes was only guessing as he reponded to a similar question. I also thought about longer studs and spacer plates on the front, but then I read that you have to grind down the taper end of studs to prevent them from hitting an ABS part. That doesnt sound like an issue I care to deal with.
I also understand that 108mm is the 'same' as 4.25", but it is off by .o5mm I believe. Thats not much, but I dont want vibration issues, any thoughts on the bolt patterns?
Someone out there in Volvoland must have used later model wheels on a 940/740. If you have done this, what did you have to do to make it work?
