Steering Rack or Pump 700 1991

'91 745, Daughter is learning to drive and while I have lived with the progressively harder to steer nature of the car, it is a bit difficult for her. I'm ready to change the rack and all lines, but after reading the FAQs am wondering if I should change the pump as well? Is there an easy way to determine if the PS Pump is still good? We just did the headliner on this car and daughter was completely involved so its a good sign!
