Doing the tire rod ends and esp. The Ball Joints ... if you need them they are crucial...if you look at how the front end is set up...the whole Magilla rests on the Ball Joints...It's almost scary when you think of driving at 80mph and it all rests on those little balls. Don't go cheap there.
If you are doing the struts it's just part of the take down...easy.
The Strut Mounts..Original Volvo...last a long time. If the rubber is sound and the bearing is not rusted...I've never replaced them on any of my 240s
Tie rod ends...unless they are obviously sloppy and/or the rubber grease boot is torn may or may not need to be replaced...but they are easy.
The hardest part of the Strut replacement is the recessed Top Nut. Some here have had success with an offset Harbor Freight 15/16 wrench...unless you have AirCompressed tools.
One thing you can do is to remove the entire shock tower assemblies and take the both sides... to a friendly local independent garage and have them replace the strut inserts....their spring compressor, their air tools. I did the the last time on my cars.
They should charge you an hour's labor...at most. Esp if you tell them you'll give them the Wheel Alignment job after you put the car back together.
