Blown head gasket? 200 1978

'78 245 wouldn't start one day. Changed fuel filter car started but was blowing white smoke. Shut car down and didn't touch for a week. Started today drove around a bit and volume of smoke went down but not completely. I don't know of anything traumatic to the engine that could have caused this but I don't understand why it's making any smoke. It really looks like water vapor to be precise. It is August and 85 degrees out. What gives? BTW the engine runs and idles nicely.
