940 AC Blower - should flange be watertight to prevent flooding? 900

1993 940 Wagon - passenger side carpet soaked when AC was running on a couple of high humidity days. On this car the AC drain only extends 1/4" beyond the firewall. Should there be an additional tube coming out of the AC drain ? My 1991 740 has a tube but the 940 does not.

I poked a wire into the AC drain and a few drops of water came out. Possibly there was a partial obstruction of the drain even though I didnt feel anything. Next I sprayed water from a garden hose into the AC drain. The water ran freely back out the drain but water also dripped from around the blower motor gasket.

Is the blower motor gasket supposed to be watertight ? Could condensate be present at the blower motor flange and gasket area during normal AC operation ?

With a clogged AC drain, condensate level would rise in the air box until it leaked out somewhere. Where does that leak typically occur ?
