Guys, I need some help.
I wanna buy a '95 960 wagon from a Volvo mechanic. It is his tertiary wagon, and the exterior paint is there, but the clear coat is in HORRIBLE condition. Rust spots (size of quarters or half dollars) along the wheel wells. He's currently in the action of replacing an exhaust manifold. It hasn't been on the road since 2010 (maybe even 2009). It also has newish "winter" tires, but is sitting on concrete with one of them flat. He's asking $3800. I'm saying less, but we haven't started negotiating.
I've done about 15 hours of homework, comparing 225-250 volvo wagons on the east coast (and sporadically midwest) for their year, model, cost, condition, miles, and location. (Yes, I have a spreadsheet) For $3800, I could get a 2000 v70xc easily, etc.
Any tips on haggling with one of the few independent Volvo mechanics in West Virginia to get the car for my price? I feel like I am at a disadvantage, since he /is/ the mechanic I would take it to for an inspection... (Closest other one is roughly 100 miles away).
