Valve shim adjustment question 200 1980

At this point what I would do is remove a tappet bucket and measure how much you can take from the shims (they can be ground thinner--something the machine shop should do for you if they didn't take some from the stem tip as jerryc suggested) before it sinks below the level of the bucket recess. It would be best if you had a thinner feeler gauge so you can tell exactly what the clearance is---but--since you know it is less than .010"---and the proper clearance should be something in the .014"-.018" range my guess is you need to take about .010" from each shim. If it is of any help---Fiat shims for the 128 model have a range both thinner and thicker than Volvo calls for and the diameter is the same as Volvo. It's been a while since I've dealt with them but I think the name is International Auto Parts--or something like that--they're in Georgia. -- Dave
