Coolant temp 120-130

Hi,

Just installed a rebuilt B20 into my 220 and having some coolant temp issues.

On start up within driving 1000 yards the temp is right up to H, then it shoots down to lower side of normal.

Then at idle it climbs pretty fast to H again, but when I rev the engine it comes back down quite fast.

Bottom of rad is getting hot so assume TStat is opening okay?

Motor has new Water pump, TStat, recored radiator. Belt is tight and not slipping.

Feels like a weak water pump or blockage but can't be...
Surley the gauge would not fail like this?

Any ideas?
