Fixing the glovebox? 200 1989

Who here has had any luck ghetto-rigging, or repairing a damaged glovebox? The problem with my glovebox not closing is, the couple of broken screw holes, or a couple of the screws just not being able to catch on the other side. The screws will spin and not fully tighten. I'm pretty sure this is why it's not closing.

I know of the backing plate technique to strengthen the catching part of the latch, but what about those screw holes? I'm thinking either washers and bigger meatier screws, or the washers and those speaker catching clips. Anyone have a similar problem they fixed cheaply? I just don't want to replace it with a used one(junkyard) , or keep using tape to hold it up, that's all. Thanks.
