Is it safe to hypermile in a manual tranny 200 1986

I stand to be corrected here, but I thought the Bosch 2.2/2.4 (and 2.0?) systems shut down the fuel injectors if the throttle was closed and RPM was above ~1500 for a certain number of seconds, such as coasting downhill or to a stop from highway speed. Injectors activated again when RPM dropped below ~1500.

Might have this wrong, but if not, you are using more gas if you shift into neutral or depress the clutch when coasting, as the engine will drop to idle and injectors are then working.
