Torque Converter help needed 700 1989

Replaced the AW 70 with the AW&!L, but am having trouble with it. Shifting issues now fixed (kickdown cable was restricted by the crimp on stop...removed it and now it shifts great).
However, it still is disengaging late at a stop. It seems that the tranny wants to stay engaged until the very last minute, then it jerks out of gear.
I suspect the torque converter. I have on hand a TC from an AW71 (not L) tranny. If I was to transplant this TC onto the AW71L, would the tranny still shift and run OK?
Thanks for any help.
