'89 B230F Tachometer "sticks' & loss of power 200

Occasionally my tach stops working and sticks somewhere. This is accompanied with a loss of power, it feels as though the ignition timing isn't advancing as it should.
I've tried different power modules, I have a "newish" crank position sensor (5000 mi), which I'm not eager to change since it is very difficult to get to (the engine is in a 122s). Sometimes it starts working again on its own, other times if the engine cools its OK. I've disconnected the battery to clear the memory and it will be fine.
There are no computer codes in memory and I have a later 951 computer.
I'll put in a new crank position sensor, but if there are any other suggestions I'm all ears.
Thanks,
TR
