556 ECU upgrade to 946, cold start valve? 200 1989

I'm working on my dad's 1989 244DL with 556 ECU and EGR, and was wondering if an upgrade to a 946 will eliminate need for the cold start valve. The popular ECU table describes the 933 as "Eliminated the need for a cold start injector." but nothing whether the 946 supports old start enrichment through the injectors or a cold start valve. I'd like to keep the EGR operational since I don't know if NOx will be a problem during emission testing. Thanks, Chris.
