M47 'Slam Shift' Removal - Help please... 200 1990

Just bought a 90' 244 w/ M47 tranny. Runs like a top. Has some decent mods (bought it from a turbobricks regular).
Problem is the guy put some kit on the shifter or in the tranny to drag it. Said something about a metal plate?? He didn't actually install it himself. First and Second gear are a horrible pain to get into without really forcing it. Its a PITA. 3rd thru 5th are normal. Clutch operates perfectly too - synchros seem fine.

Anyone ever deal with this or hear of it? And, how do i get rid of it? Thanks!
