I bought the 940 at Copart with 218K miles with the rear brake lines hanging down and the wiring to the overdrive solenoid ripped out. I'm guessing it was stolen and taken for a joy ride over some fields of brush. I replaced the rear main seal and front transmission seal while fixing the solenoid wiring. The car runs great but the transmission sometimes, not always, has noise similar to "hydraulic noise" just before shifting into 2nd or 3rd. The shifts are solid. I am using the regular Mercon 5 oil from NAPA which was all new after I replaced the seals above. I have tried adjusting the kickdown cable with no help with the noise. The cable is currently quite loose.
I have some trans tune from sea foam. I don't usually believe in this kind of stuff but am considering trying some to see if the noise goes away. Maybe I need some heavy duty cleaning of the seals, etc.?
I have had great luck with rack and pinion recovery using synthetic Mobil 1 or Amsoil ATF but am reluctant to try it in the transmission spending the $80 or so if it doesn't help?
Is there an easy fix just removing the transmission pan? I have read in the FAQS that there are some rubber balls that wear out. I don't know much about automatic transmissions even though I have pulled several to replace rear main seals.
The transmission does seem to work okay but I don't like the "hydraulic" noise sometimes on the shift. I do have a parts car transmission that I considered putting in instead of the one I did but the fluid was so filthy I didn't know what shape the transmission was in. I have never had the parts car running since I bought it only for parts.
Any ideas on what I should do to get rid of the "hydraulic noise" just before shifting into 2nd or 3rd?
