Swapping diffs. 140-160

I have a m410 (previously auto) with the 3.31 diff and while it is terrific on the open road it is absolutely frustrating in town. I have a complete 3.54 rear axel in the shed. How hard is it to pull the 3.54 crown and swap it over for the 3.31, or is it better just to swap over the rear axel complete. Read in a manual that you need to stretch the axel to swap in and out the diff crowns? Help.
