940 oxygen sensor 900 1993

hi folks,
my oxygen sensor light has been on for a couple of weeks now, with error code 2-1-2. It doesn't seem to make any difference to the way the vehicle runs etc, if anything slightly better mpg. Is it worth the £40 to put another one just to make a light go out on the dash? It probably got ruined when my head gasket was going going gone (now repaired).
I'd rather put the money towards a new heater matrix but am I courting disaster . . .?

Any opinions welcome

regards
pierso
