Gas guage and sender 120-130 1966

Hi all,
I've searched all the forums, but I'm still don't have the answers.

My gas gauge now always is showing full. I've played with the sender and it is removed from the car and still shows full. Is replacing the sender going to fix this? Should I purchase a universal sender with a separate new gauge? I see some guys are using the VDO 226001 Fuel Tank Sender from Summitracing.com Not sure what would give me the best working gauge and /or best bang for the buck?

Thanks, Mike
