ABS and speedometer trouble? 900 1993

Hello.

I have a 1993 945T with 147k miles.

The speedometer isn't working. I tried a used instrument cluster (130 k miles on it) and it doesn't work either. The wiring from the sensor to the instrument cluster has continuity and the connector at the sensor appears fine (not corroded).

I also noticed that the ABS light does not illuminate when the key is in the on position (just before starting). The ABS light did also not illuminate with the other instrument cluster that I tried. I inspected that bulb and it appears fine (I could double check with 12V).

Should the ABS light come on before the car is started? Does yours? I can't remember if the ABS light used to come on in my car or not.

When I unplugged the speedometer sensor wire (at rear axle) and drove the car, the ABS light did not come on, as the FAQ says that it should.

I tested the ABS a little while ago (before the speedometer stopped working) by slamming on the brakes and it worked well, but I haven't tested the ABS since the speedometer quit (a bit difficult to to do in NYC).

Could these two issues be related?

Thank you
Steve
