car dies at traffic light-then no start 700 1988

88 749 gle wagon non turbo 4 cycl with m-47 tranny.

car died won't start.....engine turns but doesn't sound like it's normal crank.

I turn key to on position and I don't hear fuel pump noise.....now my wipers are working when ever my headlights are on as well.

I have been having grounding issues and i know they are on the inside fenders just was able to live with the locks not going down etc.

I'm going to remove and clean them up which sholud fix the light and wiper issue but could it also cause issues with spark or juice to coil and fuel pump?

Buddy said I wasn't getting spark at coil and then I also noticed the lack of fuel pump noise.

I swaped out the fuel pump relay at the scene thinking that was a possibility....still no start.....that's when no spark at coil was found.

Could it be shabby connections at battery?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In the meantime I'll browse the board.
