car dies at traffic light-then no start 700 1988

Yep...the change in sound most likely means a broken timing belt.

This of course is assuming it does not sound like a car trying to crank with a mostly dead battery but most people know that sounds hence the reason it is being discounted.

Before you ask, not harm will have come to your car unless it is 16V (even then I am not sure) or some shave the head...a lot.
