740 pours gas out exhaust 700 1986

About 2 weeks after changing a completely clogged fuel filter @204,000 miles my 1986 740 gle with 2.3l four cylinder started running rough and soon died. Now it will turn over but won't start and fuel pours from a leak in the exhaust pipe. What should I check? Could the injectors be stuck open? Could the pressure regulator be malfunctioning? This is my only vehicle and I have limited resources, requiring me to make needed repairs myself. Any ideas? Thanks.
