740 pours gas out exhaust 700 1986

My parents had a ford ranger - FPR (regulator) went bad and an injector stuck open from the abnormally high pressure. Sounds like the same scenario. It spat out enough gasoline to soak my mom's mechanic-friend's pant leg as he walked by the exhaust when the car was cranking.

Vacuum line advice is sound. Make sure the engine is off.

The solution for the ranger was to replace the FPR, then hope the injector closed itself. It didn't, so it was replaced.

Good luck!
