timing belt questions 700 1988

Putting the cam timing mark on the top sets the cam for TDC compression stroke for #1 cylinder--so that's the cylinder you can use for the rope trick (you can see the lobes pointing up if you remove the oil cap). You may have stripped teeth on the belt accounting for the lack of the cam moving. You'd best figure on replacing the seals for the crank, auxiliary shaft and the cam to take care of the oil--also check the valve cover gasket. -- Dave
