V70 Exhaust Manifold S90-V90 1999

I have sadly left my '84 240T behind in CA and inherited a '99 V70 in TX. The previous owner's mechanic has said that the exhaust manifold needs replacing or it would likely go and be loud when it did.

I have always owned 240s but even had somewhat limited knowledge of them although appreciated the quality and relative ease of detecting issues. Having reviewed the repair records of this V70 (which are extensive!) I am reluctant to completely trust the mechanic who was not a Volvo specialist by any means.

Are there specific things I should look or listen for to (in)validate the claim that the exhaust manifold needs replacing. Just amazed that a car 15 years newer than my 240 has needed as much work as this 1999 V70, but hoping that was more a factor of the owner/mechanic and not the car.

Thanks for your thoughts and sorry if this description is too basic!
