valve question b230f and bending hitting pistons 700 1988

Hey mark,
You can take the spark plugs out and turn the engine over with I believe a 24mm socket. Place your thumb over the spark plug hole while turning the engine and see if it will come up on compression. If it doesn`t then the rope is still under the valve or the valves or valves are bent. You may have already done this. If there is a problem with the valves open then you should pull the head. If that engine didn`t smoke or other serious problems I would yank the head off. If you don`t want too then maybe try to pull the exhaust manifold off first to see if its under the exhaust valve. If you have a map gas torch heat the nuts first and a little PB blaster works great. If its not there then the intake manifold which is a little harder but remember about the gas and the torch, NOT A GOOD COMBO! After you do one cylinder head the next one can be done twice as fast if you ever need too. Finding a good used engine can be tricky. And if your head gasket wasn`t leaking then that might save you the machine work to surface it. I don`t think starting it with no compression in the cylinder that the rope was in is a good idea because of the damage that can be done to the piston and head. To do it right I would adjust all the valves if you pull the head while the head is off. I hope this wasn`t too boring because I didn`t read every post you had on this subject only read half of them. Larry
