87 244 Coolant temp sensor wire with 990 ohms! 200 1987

Situation: running rich at idle. O2 sensor steady at about 0.9 volts at idle.

I checked the resistance of the coolant temp sensor at the ECU plug. It was about 1200 ohms with hot engine (the coolant sensor is new). Checked the resistance of the wire from the coolant temp sensor to pin #2 at the ECU plug. It is 990 ohms! Connector at the coolant sensor is not corroded ... it looks good. Jiggled the wire and cable all along the wire path and no change in the resistance. Any suggestions as to how to proceed now would be appreciated.
